We are a small home-based sanctuary for special needs cats. We started our endeavor because of MimmyJoe. A snow-white Persian who was poisoned by Hartz flea treatment. As a result of the poisoning, she suffered from seizures and required specialized care. MimmyJoe lived 6 years after the accidental poisoning even though vets thought that she wouldn’t last six months. Working with her vets, we developed a recipe for a food that she was able to eat that provided her with everything she needed to stay as healthy as possible. In the end, she suffered a stroke at the age of 21. She lived a long and happy life. She never suffered except for the times she was actually having a seizure and those were limited to once every four months.
MimmyJoe’s favorite pastime was laying in her custom window seat watching the world outside. It was because of her that we discovered there was a feral colony in the woods behind our home. She would alert us to other cats being outside by loud meows and pawing at the window. We decided to start feeding all MimmyJoe’s new friends. We also provide them with medical care and shelter. All of her original friends are gone, however, the colony is still active due to people abandoning their cats and cats from other colonies joining ours.
We continue to help special needs cats and ferals in her honor. She taught us that love has no boundaries.
